A true story from the book of life

My dear friend Mohaly posted this article yesterday about a guy who always referred to himself as the poor people's representative and Mohaly as the rich man’s representative, and my interpretation for the guy’s problem was that he suffered from an inferiority complex.
I know that most probably that guy doesn’t read my blog, but I know that Mohaly does, so this one’s for you Mohaly.
This is a real story about a common person who belonged to the same social level as the guy who bothered Mohaly, and even worse. There’s no exaggeration and no imagination in this story, every single word is real.
“In the same building where I lived in Egypt, there was a poor lady who used to be the door keepers wife before he died and left her two children, a girl and an infant boy. She used to work as a house cleaner for the other residents and do shopping for them in order to feed her kids. The owner of the building allowed her to keep living in the laundry room (the roof room) even after we had a new door keeper.
Our main character is the older girl; her story begins after she left school. She joined a 2 year institution (Telecommunication technologies institution, aka Ma3had laselky), and after two years she came out to the real world with nothing but a pretty face. Her dream was to work as an air stewardess, and her mother asked my father to try and find her a job with Egypt air. My father knew KLM’s regional manager who was a relative of ours and asked him if he can help that poor girl and the man said that he couldn’t make any recommendations for her because of his position and reputation but he promised that at least he could get her an interview. She went to the interview and she failed. The interviewers told her that she was too fat, had no languages and no computer skills; simply she was good for nothing that they can offer.
She didn’t break down and she decided to carry on with her life. She worked as a shop assistant and applied for English and computer courses. After a couple of years she left the shop and worked as a typist and then we heard that she was taking French and Italian courses afterwards (and she was on diet ever since that interview).
One day her mother came knocking on our door to tell us that she got a job as an air stewardess for domestic flights with Egypt air, my mom congratulated her for she at last got what she wanted. The girl spent all her money on further education, and her family. They started to look different and the girl became really beautiful. After a while she started getting marriage proposals. Most of the families offered to receive the guest at their homes because they all loved the girl but she refused and insisted on receiving the guest in their single laundry room on the roof, and all the men left and never returned.
She worked long enough to have enough money to rent a place of her own, and she took her mother and left. I started to work away from Egypt and I totally forgot about her until one time when I was returning home from Algeria when I met her at the airport, she was talking over the phone in perfect English (actually she had an accent, but not a very bad one) interrupted by whole verses of French, she didn’t look much different than before other than losing weight and looking like movie stars, I just noticed that she was wearing KLM’s uniform.”

Thanks Gypo for sharing...Persistence is a Value that we - Egyptians- have almost forgotten except for beggars who are extremely successful in keeping it.
